Living Space Records is a record label based in Helsinki, Finland. The imprint aims to offer a fresh take on left-of-the-road electronic rhythm music. Established and co-managed by DJ:ing friends Joel Hypén and Matti Nives, the label is loosely connected to the radio show with the same name on Vienna's Play.fm. Although the founders of Living Space approach electronic music from slightly different angles, there's an overlapping meeting point somewhere close to tags such as leftfield hiphop, downtempo, future jazz, broken beat, dubstep, deep house, and so forth.

Living Space in collaboration with Marimekko

Joel Hypén of of Living Space records is working with the leading Finnish textile and clothing design company Marimekko in the release of their Spring/Summer 2009 collection. Joel produced the music heard in the release fashion shows and he also performed live at the events in Copenhagen and Helsinki in August and September 2008. The Helsinki show also featured Living Space DJ sets in addition to the live performance.

A CD release of the music featured in the show will follow later through Marimekko. Meanwhile, you can check out the sounds and info via the following links:

The first Living Space Records release is a 12" EP by Empty Chair, a project that won the renowned Ninja Tune / Solid Steel demo contest a couple of years back. Now it's time to see what kinda depth this upcoming Finnish producer has in store. The In Phase EP (LSP001) will also mark the first in a series of releases on coloured 12" wax entitled "The Colours of Living Space".
